Ionworks is pleased to announce the appointment of Liam Cooney as its Founding Commercial Officer. Liam brings a distinguished track record of leadership across the energy technology and enterprise software sectors, with nearly 20 years of experience spanning commercial strategy, customer success, and technical deployment.

Prior to joining Ionworks, Liam served as Director of Validation at Northvolt, where he oversaw advanced battery testing programs supporting large-scale energy storage innovation. Previously, he held senior leadership roles at Voltaiq, including Senior Director of Sales and Solutions Engineering, where he played a key role in advancing the company’s growth and customer engagement efforts in battery analytics software.

Earlier in his career, Liam held several leadership positions at Aquion Energy, contributing to the global deployment of energy storage solutions and scaling manufacturing processes for novel chemistry production. His experience spans both early-stage startups and established industrial leaders, combining deep technical understanding with proven commercial acumen.

“We’re delighted to welcome Liam to the team. His experience at the intersection of battery innovation and software commercialization makes him uniquely positioned to help us scale,” said Valentin Sulzer, CEO of Ionworks. “He brings the rare ability to deeply understand technical workflows while building meaningful customer relationships, exactly what we need as we enter our next phase of growth.”

“What excites me is the ability to bring new products and solutions to the world of battery development, manufacturing and their real world application,” said Liam Cooney. “Ionworks is taking a novel approach to how we solve industry specific problems using cutting edge modeling and simulation software.”

With Liam’s appointment, Ionworks strengthens its leadership team at a pivotal moment. As demand for fast, accurate, and actionable battery simulations grows, Liam will play a key role in driving commercial strategy, accelerating adoption, and ensuring customer success.
